 01 October 2017

Interview date: 12 October 2017

The University of Portsmouth is proud to be one of the world’s top 100 new Universities in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017.  In the recent Guardian University Guide (2018) the University was ranked the 37th best University in the UK, while for the 11th year in a row the University outranked the sector average, achieving 88% satisfaction rate in the National Student Survey 2017, with 19 of our courses achieving 100% satisfaction.  Our reputation for sustained, high levels of excellence, quality teaching and student satisfaction was cemented when the University was one of only four institutions in the south-east to receive the highest ‘Gold’ rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework – a Government scheme that recognises excellent teaching in UK universities.

The newly formed Department of Student & Academic Administration (DSAA) brings together the Academic Registry and School/Department Administration Teams into one department as a core professional service of the University, responsible for a diverse and wide-ranging set of administrative responsibilities across the institution.  These include: student and course management systems, timetabling, UK/EU and international admissions, student and programme administration, academic administration, graduation, UKVI student compliance, quality management and partnerships.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Department, and the Academic Registrar and Director of Student & Academic Administration is seeking an outstanding candidate to join the Department’s senior leadership team, being responsible for the DSAA Administration that is located in Faculties, Schools and Departments.

Under the direction of the Academic Registrar and Director, the Head of Student & Academic Administration (DSAA Faculties Administration) manages and provides strategic leadership to their allocated Section of the DSAA, ensuring they achieve their objectives in order to support the Department’s strategy while providing an excellent customer and student experience.  They will act as the institutional expert and recognised authority on matters and issues within the University relating to their designated Section, and they will actively contribute to, and assist with, the strategic development of the DSAA.

In their absence, the post holder (alongside the three other Heads) will act as a deputy for the Academic Registrar and Director.

The DSAA Faculties Administration Section of the DSAA includes the following faculty-based activities: programme management and administration, assessment/awards, PSRB and accreditation administration, Faculty Validation Officer related functions, faculty-based admissions-related activity, student administration, academic support, and additionally other faculty-based administration relating to the other central-based Sections of the DSAA (‘Student Life’, ‘Academic Standards, Quality & Partnerships’, ‘Student Systems’).

If you would like an informal conversation about the role, please contact Stephen Wiggins, Academic Registrar & Director or by email
