Student Services Assistant

Salary

Location
West Dean
Contract
Permanent
Hours
Full Time - 35 hours per week, five days per week (including occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays).

Do you love helping people, solving problems, and creating a welcoming atmosphere? We’re looking for a warm, organised and proactive Student Services Assistant to join our Campus Services Team at West Dean.

This is a brilliant opportunity to play a central role in campus life: supporting students day-to-day, answering queries, coordinating key admin and bookings, and helping shape a positive and engaging student experience.

West Dean is a truly unique place to work: a world-class creative education environment set in the breath-taking South Downs, surrounded by heritage, gardens, craft, and culture.

What you’ll be doing

In this varied and people-focused role, you’ll:

  • be the first point of contact for student enquiries (non-academic)

  • support students with a wide range of questions, information and signposting

  • work closely with Academic & Student Services to make sure students receive the right support quickly

  • support student arrivals and induction, open days and student events

  • assist with student accommodation and bookings, including profiles, room allocation and reporting

  • help enhance student wellbeing and contribute to an inclusive and supportive campus environment

  • support with routine checks, inspections and follow-up actions linked to student residential areas

You’ll be visible, approachable and engaged — someone who helps students feel settled, supported and able to thrive.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be:

  • confident, friendly and solutions-focused, with excellent customer service skills

  • highly organised, able to multi-task and prioritise with great attention to detail

  • comfortable using different systems (including Microsoft 365) and handling data confidentially

  • able to work independently and as part of a wider team across the College

  • flexible and willing to occasionally work evenings/weekends as needed

Experience in a higher education or student-facing environment is a bonus, but not essential if you’ve got the right mindset and capability.

What you’ll get in return

West Dean offers a really strong benefits package, including:

  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)

  • generous contributory pension scheme

  • life assurance (up to 6x salary)

  • Employee Assistance Programme + Mental Health First Aiders

  • free / discounted places on West Dean short courses

  • free entry into West Dean Gardens

  • discounts on accommodation, food & drink

  • free onsite parking + cycle to work scheme

  • complimentary hot drinks, fruit and biscuits

How to apply

If you’re passionate about supporting others and want to work somewhere genuinely special, we’d love to hear from you.
